Liquid Way to Action
12-Day Summer Intensive 2026
PHYSICAL THEATRE & MOVEMENT EXPERIENCE WORKSHOP
19–30 August 2026

2026 brings a longer 12-day format, which opens space for something we could only touch last year: deepened development, partner mastery, and time to let the work mature inside the body rather than rush through it.

Over these twelve days we will move further into:

-
Advanced partner work and building repeatable physical scores, with more hours dedicated to duets and detailed feedback.
-
Text–to–movement integration, discovering how voice, breath and phrasing shift when anchored in physical action.
-
Guided explorations and rituals, designed to bypass stylisation and reach a more honest internal impulse.
-
Body recovery sessions (sauna/classical/slow work) to keep the training sustainable and allow the depth to accumulate.
-
Outdoor sessions when weather allows, bringing the work into open space and different textures.

Instead of compressing experiences, we build them gradually — with time to absorb, transform and apply.
This year is not “more of the same”. It is the same foundation, taken further, slower, deeper, with space to create material that truly holds.

Through a laboratory model that dissolves the boundaries between dance and theatre, movement and action, this workshop transforms elements of physical training into creative improvisation, merging experience with physical structures.
At its core lies the principle of contradictions—a method that embraces opposing ideas as a source of discovery.

Awaken your body, stamina, and self-awareness through this immersive and reflective experience.

Each day is condensed with training, exploration and composition — yet long enough for the body to absorb, and for the work to build layer by layer.
Liquid Way to Action is not a workshop “about movement”.
It is a space where skills, presence and personal truth meet — where technique becomes a doorway into a deeper conversation with yourself.
Across these days we move between precision and intuition, between structure and the unknown.

Heading 4
In this 12-day edition, the work unfolds with a clear and demanding rhythm.
Focused. Structured.
We work individually and in partnership, in a group that becomes a temporary community — a circle that allows each person to take risks, to fall, to rise, and to be witnessed without judgement. As the days accumulate, something shifts:
your awareness sharpens, your body listens differently, the material you create begins to carry weight.
You build scores you can return to, refine, and strengthen.
You explore impulse, voice, breath, text, space.
You develop tools you can take back into your practice — in acting, directing, dance, movement, or simply the work of being human.
It is training, but it is also a journey. A return to what moves you, and an invitation to let it speak.

Who is it for?
This workshop welcomes participants of all levels and backgrounds, emphasizing personal growth and artistic exploration. Together, we’ll integrate individual skills, motivations, and interests, creating a shared space where your openness and determination become the foundation. In a diverse group, everyone brings and takes what they need, fostering a collaborative and enriching experience.

This 12-day process invites you to work through contradictions — the core principle of this training.
You will learn to move between opposites with clarity:
from impulse to structure -> from chaos to choreography -> from authenticity to form and back again.
We work with both, and we work inside the space between them.

You will develop:
-
A deeper physical presence, able to listen before reacting and to stay available inside intensity.
-
Partner sensitivity — sensing weight, tension, timing and intention with precision.
-
The ability to build choreography from necessity, then seek authenticity inside the fixed shape.
-
The reverse skill: taking an authentic impulse and sculpting it into a repeatable physical score.
-
Text–to–movement integration, where spoken language and action continuously influence one another.
-
Compositional intelligence — how to form, break, stretch and re-form material without losing truth.
-
Understanding the border between theatre and ritual, and how to cross it consciously and safely.
-
Awareness of performance vs personal process, allowing both to exist without confusion or collapse.
-
Tools for transforming resistance into creative power — using tension, doubt and limitation as sources of vitality, presence and artistic freedom.
For returning participants, this edition opens a longer arc of work with Matej and the method —
new layers, new contradictions, and the continuity needed to push further than the short format allowed.
These outcomes arise through immersion: precise technical work, deep listening, friction, play, sculpting, and the shared commitment of the group.

Performance action often emerges from the transformative journey of an idea or intuition—sometimes accidental, sometimes intricately structured. In this workshop, we’ll dive into the dynamic interplay of these creative contradictions, weaving together your unique visions with rigorous physical practice and embodied exploration.

The practice includes:
-
J. Grotowski’s legacy training adapted for 21st-century demands
-
Integration of movement techniques from martial arts, theatre, and dance
-
Building stamina and instinct through dynamic training and practice in nature
-
Intensifying sensitivity and attunement to our bodies, partners, and the group
-
A flexible approach to limitations, respecting each individual's process
-
Stimulation of physical imagination and openness to new sensations
-
Balancing muscle strength with awareness of body tension levels
-
Evolving connections between training, creative improvisation, action composition, and performance structure

Rooted in years of research within Studio Matejka and inspired by Grotowski’s paratheatrical activities, this practice stands at the intersection of performance and self-reflection. It explores the human dimension of existence through action and experiment. The workshop actively tests and deepens the transformation from theatre work to the broader experience of encounter—the essence of Grotowski’s “total act.”
